In round two the best Belarusian tennis player used some 60 minutes to see off Germany’s Julia Goerges in two sets 6-2, 6-0. Azarenka will next play Japan’s Ayumi Morita (World No.45) who beat Poland’s Urszula Radwanska (World No.35) 6-3, 6-1. Azarenka beat Morita twice in the two previous encounters.
Another Belarusian Olga Govortsova (World No.63) did not qualify in the singles. Paired with U.S. Megan Moulton-Levy, the Belarusian lost her doubles last-16 event to Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-2, 4-6, 7-10. In the opener the Belarusian-American tandem fought hard to defeat the Chinese-Croatian duet Chan Hao-ching and Darija Jurak 3-6, 6-3, 13-11.
The Belarusian-Romanian fifth-seeded duet Max Mirnyi and Horia Tecau start the tournament by facing an international tandem Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic and Viktor Troicki of Serbia.
