Italian team to debut at international junior basketball tournament in Gomel

       Teams from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia and Italy will take part in the international junior basketball tournament for boys born after 2000. The tournament is held in Gomel. An Italian team takes part in the tournament for the first time. The country is represented by young hopefuls from the city of Lucca (Tuscany region). 
       Their participation became possible due to the cooperation agreement in physical education and sport signed by the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee and the national sports center Libertas (Italy) a year ago. In line with the agreement, cooperation in physical education and sport is coordinated by regional offices of the center in Tuscany. Gomel region and Tuscany have developed close cooperation in the humanitarian field, in particular, in recuperation of children from the Chernobyl-affected areas in Italy. Italy covers all the expenses associated with participation of Belarusian children’s and junior teams in competitions held in Tuscany and has financed the participation of the Italian basketball players in the junior tournament in Gomel Oblast.
Gomel teams in rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, basketball and some other sports have already visited Italy.
