Hockey-themed geoinformation game for Minsk

There are plans to develop an interactive geoinformation game about the world ice hockey championship that will take place in Minsk in 2014. The idea was discussed at the session of the Minsk City Executive Committee. The session was held to discuss the program in fulfilling the 2011-2015 tourism development program. Ms Svetlana Demeshko, Deputy Head of the Physical Training, Sports, and Tourism Office of the Minsk City Executive Committee, said that the development of such a product would enhance the perception of Minsk and would get foreigners familiar with the city. For instance, the Belarusian game World of Tanks is popular among gamers.
“They may not be our potential tourists but the game has influenced the recognition of the country across the globe. The creation of an interactive geoinformation game about the 2014 world ice hockey championship is one of the ways to develop tourism, increase interest in the city, including interest on the part of the youth,” said the official.
The Ice Hockey Federation of the Republic of Belarus has been recommended to have the game developed.
There are also plans to advertise Minsk’s tourism potential abroad more, to put more efforts into promoting tourism services, creating tourism guidebooks and so on.
