Expert: CIS states should unite efforts to address public health issues

The CIS member states need to team up to address issues in the healthcare sector, BelTA quotes Deputy Director General of the Republican Center for Health Development at the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of Kazakhstan Nagima Isatayeva. The CIS Executive Committee headquarters hosted a session of the expert group working on the strategy titled “Public health in the CIS states”. Nagima Isatayeva reminded that the CIS cooperation agreement in the field of public health was signed in 1992. It became a base document for promoting interstate cooperation in the healthcare sector.
The document is updated every year depending on the healthcare priorities of the member states. “This year Kazakhstan has assumed presidency in the CIS. We have certain solutions in the healthcare sector and we should like to share them with our CIS partners. However, healthcare issues should mostly be discussed and resolved in a team spirit, including with the help of the mechanisms we inherited from the Soviet Union,” she noted.
