Belarusian Railways posts 30% increase in container transportation in January-September

In January-September 2020 Belarusian Railways transported more than 700,000 containers TEU, which was up by 30% over the same period of 2019, BelTA learned from the press center of Belarusian Railways.

China-Europe-China remains a promising route for the development of container transport. Over 380,000 containers TEU were transported by the Belarusian Railways in January-September, up by 1.6 times year-on-year.

The main routes of container trains on the East-West-East route pass through the Brest/Terespol border checkpoint. The Brest-Severny container terminal provides storage, container consolidation and timely processing services. In January-September, the volume of transshipment at the Brest-Severny container terminal increased by 12% year-on-year.

Keeping in mind the growing container traffic, Belarusian Railways, together with the participants of the transport services market, is working on new routes through the Belarusian-Polish border checkpoints Bruzgi/Kuznica Bialostocka and Svisloch/Siemianowka.

Another area of work for Belarusian Railways is to create conditions for export transportation and delivery of Belarusian products to foreign markets by rail. In January-September 2020, Belarusian freight traffic to China increased 1.8 times to exceed 15,000 containers TEU.

“Belarusian Railways is interested in further cooperation with Belarusian business entities and development of export deliveries of Belarusian products to foreign markets by rail,” the press center said.
