Lithuania is set to launch a joint project to promote bicycle touring and the tourist information system in the Belarus-Lithuania border area.
Lithuania’s Birstonas will host an inauguration conference “Promotion of bicycle touring and the tourist information system in the border area of Lithuania and Belarus” to be implemented within the framework of the international technical aid program Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus.
The project was signed by the authorities of Grodno and Birstonas. The project is estimated at about €705,000. It envisages construction of a paved bicycle path with illumination in the town of Oshmyany, Grodno Oblast, and development of the 30.5km long cycle route Chalk Mountains in the Pushki neighborhood in Grodno. The route will be marked; 12 landscaped recreation areas will be set up there. Bicycle paths will be built in the Lithuanian cities of Birstonas and Alytus.
These routes will encourage tourists to visit natural, cultural and historical landmarks that cannot be accessed by car. The project is expected to contribute to the promotion of cross-border tourism. The financing will allow launching a massive advertising campaign to promote the new routes in Belarus and at exhibitions abroad.
