Belarus calls for cooperation of France, Romania with UNHRC special procedures

A Belarusian delegation took part in the discussion of the reports of the Universal Periodical Review Working Group on France and Romania as part of the 23rd session of the UN Human Rights Council. Belarus turned attention of the participants of the meeting to the fact that France and Romania had not accepted a whole range of recommendations which are of great significance for improving the situation with human rights in these countries. In particular, the recommendations concern the protection of children’s rights, liquidation of racial discrimination, observance of the rights for freedom of associations and gender equality.
“Belarus called upon France and Romania for cooperation with the special procedures of the UN Human Rights Council and expressed hope that these countries would invite special rapporteurs on the fight against human trafficking, torture, modern forms of slavery as well as on the migrants’ rights,” the Foreign Ministry of Belarus said.
