Belarusian private companies agile at increasing export

Private companies in Belarus are more mobile in increasing export than state-run companies are. The statement was made by Dmitry Kuptel, Deputy Director of the Foreign Economic Activities Department of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, at the press conference held to highlight results of the contest Best Exporter of the Year 2012.
“As a coordinator of foreign economic activities the Foreign Ministry does not differentiate between state-run enterprises and the private sector but encourages everyone to work hard on foreign markets.
Undoubtedly, state-run enterprises account for the bulk of the total export, over 60%, but nevertheless, the private sector, enterprises without departmental affiliation are most mobile and promising from the point of view of increasing export,” said the official. In 2012 Belarusian private companies increased the export of their products by 2%.
Dmitry Kuptel believes if Belarus plans to develop and increase production, it has to sell more abroad. “It is not accidental that the head of state and the government have given instructions to modernize enterprises, make new products and raise export sales up to 65% of the output. It is the formula of life,” he stressed.
The Foreign Ministry representative said that in the last few years Belarus’ export has been demonstrating steady positive changes.
