IMF outlines terms of new country program for Belarus

Serious commitments to implement a complex package of consistent and decisive macroeconomic policy measures and deep structural reforms that IMF member states could back are required for a new IMF program for Belarus, BelTA learned from David Hofman, head of the IMF mission that has arrived in Belarus.
“If the government is ready to go ahead with such sweeping changes of the current economic policy within the next few months with a view to putting together a reliable package of measures, the IMF is ready to start working on a new program,” said David Hofman.
We reported earlier that an IMF mission led by Deputy Head of the Office for Northeastern Europe of the European Department David Hofman arrived in Belarus for the sake of studying the advisability of preparing a new country program.
Belarus regularly honors its obligation to repay a standby loan taken from the International Monetary Fund. On 23 October Belarus transferred 54.7 million SDR or the equivalent of $81.7 million as a regular installment to repay the principal sum. The larger part of the principal sum has been repaid already. Next year Belarus will make the final transaction.
