The output capacity of renewable sources of energy in Belarus will be close to 630MW by 2025, BelTA learned from Leonid Poleshchuk, Deputy Director of the Energy Effectiveness Department of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, at a press conference held on 8 July to discuss the state and prospects of renewable sources of energy in Belarus.
According to the source, the output capacity of Belarusian renewable sources of energy is close to 500MW. There are 82 photovoltaic power plants in Belarus as well as 53 hydropower plants, 30 biogas installations, over 100 power plants, and 10 compact cogeneration plants burning wooden fuel. An increase in the output capacity of renewable sources of energy will allow not only reducing the consumption of conventional sources of energy but also reducing CO2 emissions. The output capacity of the renewable sources of energy will be close to 630MW by 2025, with the share of renewable sources of energy at 8% of the total.
Leonid Poleshchuk said that the development of renewable sources of energy in Belarus is expected to proceed in the same context but approaches to it will change a bit. “We allocate quotas now, however, we intend to switch to auctions. On the whole, it will allow us to continue the development of renewable sources of energy at the local level – for in-house consumption by enterprises and citizens,” the official noted.
