United Nations commemorates 30th anniversary of Chernobyl

       The UN General Assembly held a commemorative meeting in observance of the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident on 26 April 2016, we learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The delegations, including representatives of the most affected countries, the UN regional groups and the United States, noted the importance of the memorable date as a reminder of the need to have dialogue and cooperation to overcome the Chernobyl legacy,” the Ministry of foreign Affairs noted.

Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Andrei Dapkiunas made a collective statement on behalf of the Eastern European Regional Group. Belarus holds chairmanship in the Group in April 2016.
